Track No 1 { Tara Davi Temple }

Tara Devi is a 300 years old sacred temple at a height of 2100 metres on a hill top near Shimla. Of course the best one day trek in Shimla, that comes the closest to real trekking experience, is the Tara Devi trek. Many local people and tourist still choose to walk up to the temple. The temple is very famous among tourists as the clean and fresh atmosphere here helps them relax from the day to day worries of life.

This walk starts from Tara Devi bus stand / Taradevi railway station 7 kms. from Shimla on the Kalka Shimla highway. You have to take a bus or train to Tara Devi from Shimla and then walk about 4 km uphill along a meandering forest path. One has to hike for about one and half hours, (about 4-5 kilometers-one way) to reach the temple which is located ideally at the ridge of the hill with wide views on to all the sides. The trek is easy and most people should be able to do it at a leisurely pace.

Through the dense forest of the pinewood, oak, rich in flora and fauna, passing through the green meadows on the way, it is one of the most beautiful walks around Shimla. If you are in a hurry or don’t fancy the workout, you can also drive all the way to the top. The meandering foot path, climbs gently to the top of the hill and it turns to be a tireless climb. On the way to the top there are various places which offer wide panoramic views of the country sides as well as the Shimla town with the Himalayas at back. If you take the train, it will add to the experience.

How to reach Tara Devi -:

The temple is about 18 KM away from Shimla by road.

Vehicles are reaching near the temple.

Regular buses are running to the temple.
